Friday's "Soar & Explore!"

This week's photo for Friday's "Soar & Explore" was taken by Flo Gascon, fellow mom blogger, photographer, and creater of San Diego's Annual Unschooling Conference, Wide Sky Days. Flo shared, "This is from Liz Bolton Stables in San Marcos where the girls have been taking riding lessons. It's such a beautiful place with friendly, encouraging instructors. Highly recommend!"

Where have you "soared and explored" to this week? Please share your photos with us over on Facebook or by emailing a .jpg image to me at Mandaroo63 at yahoo dot com.

Soaring on a Sunday

From Spring 2012 at the Miller Farm

It's almost Spring and there's not only new life in the garden, but lots of farm babies arriving in this neck of San Diego. We got to visit 7 nubian kids this week at a friend in town's place. She also had lot of adorable baby chicks and an adorable little bunny. I had a lot of fun taking pictures there with the kids. Even got mine to pose for a couple that I'll be using for Easter cards this year.

It's been a rainy and cold weekend, and there's sure to be new snow in the local mountain towns like Julian, Laguna Mountain and Mount Palomar. So if you haven't gotten up to the snow yet this season, it's probably a good time to go now. Make sure you check the local reports to see if chains are needed.

Here's what else is going on this coming week and weekend. Enjoy the Spring and beautiful new blossoms that this weekend's rain is sure to bring about.

Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25th, 12-5pm.   Spring Busker Festival at Seaport Village. Live street performers, knife throwing, sword swallowing, pogo stick tricks and juggling on unicycles are just a few of the fun things you'll see at this FREE event!

Opening March 24th thru April 15th. Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Safari Park. Activities for the kids, coloring contests, photo contests and fun activities on their website.

San Diego Tide Pools. It's the best time of year to visit the tidepools on San Diego's beaches this month. Check out this website for guided tour info and lots of great information on visiting the tidepools, such as tide charts and locations.

Sunday, March 18th. Family Days at Maritime Museum. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Kids craft activity from 11am-3pm.

March 1-May 13th, Carlsbad Flower Fields. After this weekend's rain there's sure to be lots of blossoms opening up. Call or check website for updates.

Sunday, March 18th, noon-4pm. Family Sunday at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park. On the third Sunday of every month the Mingei has special admission price $5/family, $3/individual for an art project and visit the museum.

Friday's Soar & Explore

From SDFS at Torrey Pines St Beach 2012-03-13

We went to Torrey Pines State Beach this week and saw these pelicans "soaring" over San Diego while we played in the sand and enjoyed some time with friends. We also had fun stacking rocks and enjoying the still almost empty beach. The tide was coming in and chased us away but we had a good time nonetheless. Where did you soar to this week? Hope you had fun. Join us next week by sending photos you've taken in San Diego during the week. Post them on our facebook community page or by sending them to me at mandaroo63 at yahoo dot com.
Keep Soaring and Exploring in beautiful, sunny San Diego!

Soaring on a Sunday

DSC_0516

Have you moved your clocks forward this morning yet? Don't forget, or you'll be late to the party! I love daylight savings during this time of year. The longer light makes for nice early evening strolls around the neighborhood before it gets dark. What do like (or not like) about Daylight Savings? Is it needed, or outdated?

Here's what's happening this week in San Diego.....

Today, Sunday, March 11th.  House of Ireland international cottage in Balboa Park is having it's annual Lawn Program from 2-3pm.

Today, Sunday, March 11th at 12-3pm. Finnish Family Festival at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park.

Today, and ongoing. The Titanic Exhibit at the SD Natural History Museum. Now, open an hour earlier on Saturdays, (9am).

Thursday, March 15th. POP Thursdays: Modern Myths, Folklore, and Tall Tales, Museum of Photographic Arts.

Saturday, March 17th-Saturday, March 24th. San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering. Lots going on this week for this science-filled week, starting with a kick-off at SDSU. Lots of FREE hands-on science activities for the kids.

Saturday, March 17th. Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park.

Saturday, March 17th & 18th, 9-5pm. Keys Creek Lavender Farm will be at the Herb Festival at the Encinitas San Diego Botanical Garden. Learn from author and visionary Rosalind Creasy about Edible Landscaping.
Also, English High Tea at the Lavender Farm on Friday, March 16th, Saturday, March 17th, Friday, March 30th and Saturday, March 31st. Early reservations needed, they do sell out fast! Visit their labyrinth and meditation garden while there. Here's more about the Lavender Farm here.

Saturday, March 17th, 9am-4pm. Tomatomania at the SD Botanic Garden in Encinitas. As part of the annual Herb Festival and Plant Sale, there will be over 150 varieties of classic heirloom and unique hybrid seedlings available and you will learn everything you need to learn about growing tomatoes successfully this season!

Several St Patrick's Day activities were included in last Sunday's post and can be found here.

Friday's Soar and Explore

DSC_0123
Have you "soared and explored" to anywhere in San Diego this week? Share with us where you've been to that was fun, interesting, beautiful, exciting or relaxing. I was relaxing in my own front yard and decided to get some shots of this beautiful, pink water-wise plant that is currently blooming. It looked so lovely against the wispy clouds.
If you didn't share this week, feel free to send photos anytime for next week's post.

Have a great weekend!
