The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker is a holiday tradition at our house. We read the book, listen to the music and try to see the ballet every year.

This year we went to a performance put on by the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet at the historical Casa del Prado theatre in our favorite park, Balboa Park.

Casa del Prado

We went with some friends and even had seats in the third row! I will say though that any seats in this theatre are fantastic, we have sat in the very last row in previous years and enjoyed ourselves just as much.

The Theatre

This production is almost all children and they do a stellar job! With ticket prices ranging from $10-$15 and free parking (not many venues can offer that!) this is a really reasonably cost for a memorable family outing.

Nutcracker

The show runs though the 19th and you can order tickets online, over the phone (619) 233-3060 or in person at the studios (located at 1650 El Prado Room 209 *corner of El Prado and Village Place, Balboa Park).

Nutcracker Performance

If you go to an eveing performance be sure arrive early and stroll through the park and see the lights and if you catch an afternoon show don't miss out on going to the Spanish Village right next to the theatre. It is full of working artists and really fantastic, one of a kind hand crafted gifts.

All of the photos are from the show we attended, let us know if you go!

Happy Holidays,

Dawn :)
